The Minster of Bad Doberan

Unmittelbar in der Nähe der Bundesstraße B5 liegt mitten in Bad Doberan das Münster. Tritt man durch den Haupteingang ein und wendet sich nach links, wird man in ca. 5 m Höhe am Ende des Seitenganges eine astronomische Uhr entdecken.

In ihrer Bauart soll es im Ostseeraum 6 Stück geben (Lübeck, Wismar, Bad Doberan, Rostock, Stralsund und Lund (Schweden)). Die Uhr ist leider nicht mehr ganz so gut erhalten und auch nicht mehr funktionsfähig, da einige Teile (z.B. Zeiger) fehlen. Trotzdem sind ihr Aufbau und die reichen Verzierungen ein Besuch wert.

In the middle of the town Bad Doberan (near the road B5) is a beautiful minster. You go in through the main door and turn to the left. On the end of the hallway you can see an astronomical clock on the wall in a height of approximately 5 meters.

There are 6 astronomical clocks in the area of the Baltic See (Lubeck, Wismar, Bad Doberan, Rostock, Stralsund and Lund (Sweden)). It's a pity that the clock is out of order. Some parts of the clock are missing (e.g. hand). But a trip to the minster will be a great experience for you, because the clock is rich in details and ornaments.

Die vier Ecken der Uhrscheibe sind mit Gelehrtenbildern ("Weltweisen") gefüllt. Jedem Gelehrten ist ein Spruch in latainischer Sprache zugeordnet. In Bad Doberan sind Ptolemäus, Alfons X., Hali und Albumazar dargestellt.

In the four corners of the clock are four pictures of scientists ("World philosophers"). Every scientist has a banner with a latin sentence. The World philosophers in Bad Doberan are Ptolemeus, Alfons X., Hali and Albumazar.
